Family Resort in Ontario: Three Ideas for a Reunion

2 min read

Fifteen cottages overlooking the pristine Halls Lake, one private beach and no shared hallways. Sandy Lane Resort is on Hwy 35 in the Algonquin Highlands, about two and a half hours north of the Greater Toronto Area. We are a family resort in Ontario built for quality time, where the group stays together, and each cottage keeps its own kitchen and bathroom. Here are three family reunion ideas worth borrowing.

Three Family Reunion Ideas at Our Family Resort in Ontario

Renting the entire property is the simplest way to run a reunion at a family resort in Ontario, and we offer it outright: exclusive use of the beach, the grounds and the banquet hall, with no strangers to work around when children start a game of tag at dusk. Between beds and sofa beds, the cottages hold up to 70 adults and 30 children, and the hall seats 140.

Taking the whole property also settles dinner. Every cottage has a full kitchen and a deck with a propane barbecue, but our Restaurant and Bar runs a breakfast and dinner meal plan, and the banquet hall can take one evening off your hands entirely.

2. Match the Family Reunion Ideas to the Season

Our resort in Ontario can host a family reunion in February as easily as July, with plenty of fun activities each season. Our seasonal activity pages go deeper, but here is the short version:

3. Hold a Family Games Day

The gear for a family game day is already here on the grounds of our Ontario resort:

  • Beach volleyball, basketball, mini soccer and badminton

  • Horseshoes, shuffleboard and tetherball

  • Pool, air hockey and foosball in the games room for when it rains

  • A playground for the little ones

  • A campfire for the awards ceremony

Whether you are comparing places to stay in Haliburton or weighing lake resorts in Ontario, a family reunion spot should hold everybody at once and still give each household a door to close. Call us at 705-489-2020 or email holiday@sandylaneresort.com with your dates and headcount, and we will map out the cottages, the hall and everything in between.
